In 1994 the Conner Consent Decree required Iowa to create an association, called the Iowa Training Consortium, which would provide a variety of training activities for professionals in the disability services field. This training would also serve college students preparing for careers in health and disability services. Next, the Consortium broadened its role by providing funds for individuals with disabilities and family members to attend training conferences. Then the use of information technology made possible the creation of an online training consortium, disabilitytraining.org, where people can find the latest information and resources.
Mike Hoenig serves as director of the Iowa Training Consortium. He has served as editor of the Consortium's newsletter, Possibilities in Education and Training, since 2003. Hoenig has worked in the disability services field since 1985, providing training, information and referral, and advocacy services.
