Photographs from the July 1999 ADA Parade and Celebration

The Americans with Disabilities Act was celebrated in Iowa City with a parade and a day of activities. Starting from the Civic Center, parade participants walked, wheeled, skated, and rode to College Green Park for a celebration. Guest speakers at the park included Lieutenant-Governor Sally Pederson and Marilyn Turner, executive director of the Iowa Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Other speakers included Iowa City attorney Sondra Kaska, State Senator Robert Dvorsky, Heather Ritchie of the Conner Center, and members of the Iowa City City Council and the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.

The Cedar County Gang brought Jake and Judy to haul a wagon.

Mercy Hospital mercifully provided cool lemonade to refresh parade participants.

Iowa City ADA Celebrations

• Photographs from the 2001 Iowa City ADA celebration
  The 11^th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act was celebrated with a rally, art show, and a training session on grassroots organizing on Saturday, July 28, at the Iowa City Public Library and the Pedestrian Mall.
• Photographs from the 2000 Iowa City ADA celebration
  The 10^th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act was celebrated with a parade and activities on Saturday, July 22, in College Green Park in Iowa City. The parade began at the Civic Center and proceeded to the celebration at College Green Park from 11 AM to 4 PM. Bob Kafka, a national organizer for ADAPT (Americans Disabled for Attendant Programs Today) and Co-Director of the Institute for Disability Access, was the keynote speaker.
