Opportunity for Training FundsCommunity Living Transition Grants

Training funds are available for a sixth year through a grant from the Iowa Department of Human Services to the Iowa Training Consortium.

The Consortium, formed after the 1994 Conner Decree, is a statewide group that promotes training to build supportive communities for Iowans who have disabilities. The Office of Community Education at University Hospital School manages the grant for the Consortium.

The 2002-2003 grant will focus on supporting specific individuals to live in their communities, rather than in institutional settings.

Proposals must include:

Proposals will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Choice: consumers and their families have the ability to exercise informed choices about the amounts and types of services and supports received.
  • Community: the service system should support the rights and the ability of all consumers to live, learn, work, and recreate in natural communities of their choice.
  • Empowerment: the system should reinforce the fundamental rights, dignity, and ability of consumers to accept responsibility, make choices, and take risks.
