Iowa's Disability and Health grant, jointly sponsored by the University of Iowa Center for Disabilities and Development and the Iowa Department of Public Health, hosts a variety of training programs. "Living Well with a Disability" is a 10-week health promotion course for persons with disabilities, held in select Iowa locations. "Communicating with People with Disabilities" is an interactive panel presentation designed to equip students entering health care professions to serve patients with disabilities more effectively. Clinical simulations allow small groups of students entering the health professions to interact directly with children and adults with disabilities. If you would like to learn more about or participate in these activities, visit www.livingwelliowa.org or contact Mike Hoenig at 319-353-6448, michael-hoenig@uiowa.edu.
Iowa's Community Circle of Care project offers "Mental Health First Aid", a 12-hour course designed to help people identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses, substance use disorders, and suicidal ideation.
