An Equal Voice

Iowans with disabilities deserve an equal voice in society, in our economy, and with public policymakers. As a result, the Governor's Developmental Disabilities Council is launching ID Action (Iowans with Disabilities in Action), a campaign to empower Iowans with disabilities to assert their rights as American citizens. From registering to vote and promoting an issue or candidate, to running for office, ID Action will give Iowans with disabilities a greater voice in Iowa politics and in charting their own destiny.

Many industry and political partners are currently stepping forward to support ID Action, including the Iowa Secretary of State's Office, the Iowa Association of Community Providers, National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), the Statewide Independent Living Council, and both the Republican and Democratic parties of Iowa, among others.

The first step is to register either by phone or on the ID Action Web site. There is no cost or obligation. Participants will receive a free ID Action Guide that illustrates the possibilities of political participation and outlines questions to get started. In addition, participants will receive e-newsletters with helpful news and advice that makes voting and political participation easier.

It's easy to join - and it's everyone's right.

For more information, visit www.idaction.org or call toll-free at 866-432-2846.
